The OASIS IDtrust Member Section (MS) was pleased to sponsor the Internet Identity Workshop which took place on 12-14 May 2008. The Extensible Resource Identifier (XRI) Technical Committee, which is part of the IDtrust MS, made a presentation that was met with tremendous interest. The XRI digital identifier and XRDS service discovery specifications were discussed.  Of particular interest:

• Use of persistent XRIs to prevent OpenID recycling.
• Best practices for OpenID service endpoints in XRDS files.
• XRDS Simple, an extra-lightweight version of XRDS.
• The use of XRIs and XDI (XRI Data Interchange, another OASIS TC) to implement relationship cards, a new type of information card being developed by the open source Higgins Project.

On the next day, many of the same OASIS members presented at the Data Sharing Summit, with a special emphasis on how relationship cards could leverage privacy and data portability features of both XRIs and the XDI data sharing protocol under development by the OASIS XDI TC.  

Voting to approve XRI Resolution 2.0 and XRI Syntax v2.0 as OASIS Standards is currently taking place.
